Holiday Routing — Closures Without Morning-Of Panic
Holiday routing is a special time condition that sits above business hours in your routes: on listed dates, callers hear the holiday greeting and routing instead of the normal day path. Load the year's dates once — the alternative is someone remembering to flip a switch at 7 a.m. on New Year's Day.
The pattern
- Create a "Holidays" time condition listing specific dates (whole days or partial — closing at noon before a holiday is a date + time range).
- Record a holiday greeting. Generic beats specific: "We are closed for the holiday. We'll return the next business day" survives every year unedited; "closed for Thanksgiving, back Monday the 28th" is wrong eleven months later.
- In each public route, add the Holidays condition above business hours → terminal: holiday greeting → general voicemail (or an emergency-option menu for clinical contexts).
The annual ritual
Every December, load next year's dates. Put it on the same calendar reminder as benefits renewal — the failure mode is silent: the condition simply stops matching, and next Thanksgiving the office phones ring at empty desks.
Multi-site nuance
Sites with different closure calendars need per-site holiday conditions (Site-A-Holidays, Site-B-Holidays) in their respective routes. A shared company-wide condition works only if closures genuinely are company-wide.
Emergency closures (snow days)
Unplanned closures are what managed routes or a temporary condition toggle solve — flip to closed mode from the portal or a phone, no schedule edit at 6 a.m. required.
