Managed Routes — Manual Day/Night Mode for Your Phones
A managed route trades automatic schedules for a switch: Day, Night, and Temporary modes, each with its own routing, toggled by an authorized user from the portal or by dialing a feature code from a phone. It's the right tool for offices whose closing time is "when the last patient leaves," and for snow days.
Managed route vs. time conditions
Time conditions | Managed route | |
|---|---|---|
Switches | Automatically on schedule | When a person toggles it |
Best for | Predictable hours | Variable close times, emergency closures |
Risk | Stale schedule | Someone forgets to flip it |
Most offices use both: schedules for the normal week, and a managed route (or temporary mode) as the manual override lane.
Setup
- Features → Managed Routes → Add New; define the Day routing and the Night routing (and optionally Temp — a third state for exceptional situations).
- Assign the toggle feature code and authorize the extensions allowed to dial it (front desk, managers).
- Point the relevant number or route segment at the managed route.
Operating discipline
- Make the toggle part of opening/closing procedure — a checklist line, not a memory test.
- The current mode shows in the portal; when "why is the night greeting playing at 2 p.m." calls arrive, check the mode before anything else.
- Temporary mode should have an owner: whoever flips it owns flipping it back.
