The Signal Mobile App — Your Extension in Your Pocket

The mobile app registers your phone as another device on your extension: business calls ring your pocket, and calls you place show your business caller ID, not your personal cell number. Personal and work calling stay fully separated on one device.

Setup

  1. Install the Signal app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Sign in with your portal credentials.
  3. Allow notifications — inbound calls arrive as push notifications; denying this is the #1 cause of "the app never rings."
  4. Place a test call and confirm the recipient sees your business number.

The settings that decide reliability

Setting

Why

Notifications allowed

Inbound ringing depends on push

Battery optimization excluded (Android)

Aggressive battery savers kill background ringing

Microphone permission

Obvious, and still occasionally missed

Wi-Fi calling preference

Prefer Wi-Fi where available; LTE/5G works but varies

Boundaries worth setting

  • The app rings whenever your extension rings — pair it with your organization's after-hours expectations, or sign out after hours.
  • Lost phone? Your administrator resets the extension's SIP password and the app deauthenticates everywhere.

Quick fixes

  • Never rings: notifications, then battery optimization, in that order.
  • Choppy on cellular: known-weak coverage areas will be choppy; Wi-Fi when available.
  • Wrong caller ID: the app uses the extension's configured outbound caller ID — ask your admin to adjust.
