Star Codes — Feature Codes You Can Dial from Any Phone
Star codes (feature codes) are short dial sequences — * plus digits — that trigger system features from any phone: overhead paging, one-time caller ID changes, voicemail access. Your administrator defines the account's specific codes; this page explains the standard categories.
Common code categories
Category | What it does | Typical pattern |
|---|---|---|
Paging | Broadcasts your voice to a paging group's phones | One code per zone |
Caller ID override | Next call shows a chosen office number | One code per identity |
Voicemail access | Direct dial into a mailbox | Code + extension |
Day/night toggle | Switches routing mode (authorized users) | Single code |
Using a caller ID override
Dial the override code, listen for the confirmation, then dial your call normally. Only that one call presents the alternate number; your default caller ID returns automatically. There's nothing to undo.
Paging etiquette
A page interrupts every phone speaker in the zone. Keep pages short ("Call for Dr. Stein, park one"), and prefer a parked call + page over shouting a caller's business across the office.
Where to find your account's codes
The live list — with the specific numbers behind each code — is maintained by your administrator in the portal's Feature Codes section. Ask for the current sheet rather than trusting a taped-up printout from two office moves ago.
