Wrong Caller ID Showing on Outbound Calls — Fixes

Wrong outbound caller ID has two distinct failure modes: the wrong number displaying (a settings hierarchy issue you control) and the wrong name displaying (CNAM data cached by receiving carriers, which updates on their schedule). Diagnose number and name separately.

Check the hierarchy in order — the most specific setting wins:

1. Did the caller dial a one-time override star code before the call? That overrides everything for that call.
2. The extension's outbound caller ID — most misconfigurations live here, typically after copying an extension from a template configured for another office.
3. The account default — applies only when the extension has no override.

Fix at the level that's wrong, then place a test call to a mobile.

Wrong name showing (CNAM)

Caller ID names are looked up by the receiving carrier from CNAM databases. After you change a caller ID name:

• Some carriers show the new name within days; others cache for weeks.
• Mobile carriers increasingly display their own labels ("Potential Spam", a location) regardless of your CNAM.
• You cannot force a remote carrier's cache; persistent wrong names after ~30 days merit a support case so the database entry can be verified.

"Spam Likely" labeling

If recipients see spam labels: register your numbers with the carrier reputation programs (free B2C registries exist), keep outbound patterns reasonable, and present callback-capable numbers. High-volume outbound from a number with no inbound answer pattern is the classic trigger.
