Polycom VVX 400 / 401 Setup and Key Map
The Polycom VVX 400/401 is a 12-line-key color-screen desk phone — the most common workhorse model on Signal accounts. This page maps its buttons to everyday tasks; provisioning and reset procedures are on the VVX series page.
The buttons that matter
Task | Keys |
|---|---|
Answer / hang up speaker | Speakerphone key (bottom right) |
Hold / resume | Hold hard key |
Attended transfer | Transfer → dial → announce → Transfer |
Blind transfer | Transfer → Blind soft key → dial → Send |
Conference (3-way) | Confrnc soft key mid-call → dial → Confrnc |
Do Not Disturb | DND soft key from idle |
Voicemail | Messages envelope key |
Park / retrieve | Park-labeled line keys (lit = occupied) |
Line keys flank the screen: your extension occupies the top-left key(s); BLF, speed-dial, and park assignments fill the rest per your administrator's layout.
Reading the lights
- Green solid — BLF target idle; press to call.
- Red / fast blink — target busy; press mid-call to transfer to them.
- Flashing green — target ringing; press to pick up (where enabled).
- Park key lit — a call is parked there; press to retrieve.
Quick fixes at the desk
- Phone frozen: unplug network/power 10 s, replug (2–4 min boot).
- Not ringing: check DND icon and idle-state volume first.
- "URL call disabled" or blank lines: see registration troubleshooting.
