Polycom SoundPoint IP Desk Phones — Legacy Support Notes
Polycom SoundPoint IP phones (301 through 670) predate the VVX line and still register on Signal — with real limits. They provision by MAC like any supported model, but firmware ceilings cap security options and some features. Treat them as a fleet in runoff: keep them working, replace on failure.

Practical guidance
- Transport: units that can't negotiate TLS need legacy transport — acceptable short-term, but track them and prioritize their replacement (see security reference).
- Reset: boot-time key combinations mirror the VVX family (commonly 4-6-8 or 1-3-5 depending on model); admin password default
456. - Don't invest hours: any SoundPoint requiring more than a reset and re-provision has reached retirement. A current 12-key replacement provisions in minutes and costs less than the labor.
Retirement plan that doesn't hurt
Replace by role, not by age: front-desk and manager phones first (they feel the missing features), shared-space phones last (a break-room phone can run to failure). Keep layouts standardized so each swap is MAC-in, MAC-out.
