Polycom SoundStation IP Conference Phones — Legacy Setup
The Polycom SoundStation IP series (4000/5000/6000/7000) — the classic triangular conference phones — still provisions and works on Signal. They're end-of-life hardware: deploy the ones you own, but buy Trio 8800s for new rooms.
Deployment
Same pattern as the Trio: a dedicated room extension (not a person's), added by MAC with the room's location for E911, dialing permissions trimmed to what a conference room needs.

Living with legacy
- Firmware ceilings mean some modern template features are ignored — harmless for a device whose job is dial, answer, mute.
- If a unit won't hold registration after a factory reset and re-provision, retire it; SoundStations fail via flaky network daughter boards, and troubleshooting time exceeds replacement cost.
- TLS support varies by firmware; these devices may need legacy transport. Isolate them accordingly (see security notes).
