Dialing Permissions — Controlling What Each Extension Can Call

Every extension carries its own dialing permissions — independent switches for internal, external, international, and emergency calling, plus feature-code use and supervisor monitoring. Defaults are sensible (external on, international off); review them whenever an extension serves a public or unsupervised space.

International calling and toll fraud

Leaving international dialing off by default is your cheapest security control. Compromised credentials are typically monetized by pumping calls to premium international destinations — an extension that can't dial internationally caps that exposure. Enable it for the specific users who need it, not account-wide.

Restricted phones that can still reach help

For a phone that should only call a few internal numbers (a waiting-room courtesy phone), disable external dialing and use the internal-override list to whitelist the allowed extensions.

Warning: never disable emergency dialing on a phone people might reach for in a crisis. If you must (fax lines, paging boxes), document it, and confirm the space has an obvious alternative for 911. Emergency calls also depend on a correct E911 location.
